Vintage & Secondhand Clothing Stores in Jerusalem

I am really excited about this post. It might even be years in the making. I have been shopping in secondhand and vintage stores for at least 15 years, and my best wardrobe pieces and shoes are definitely high quality, secondhand picks from shops and markets from around the world, and here in Israel.

Of course it is not only sustainable and cheaper to buy secondhand, but I really enjoy and appreciate finding such unique and quality pieces that stay with me for years.

Here is a list of Jerusalem’s vintage and secondhand clothing stores. There are only a handful, and two favorites recently closed down (Naomi and Trumpeldor Vintage), but there are definitely some great pieces to be found at these stores.

Hanut She’hi Bayit 

Katamonim, 21 Hananel Street.  Tel: 02-6780537

Mireille Winter’s chic store in Katamonim is currently my favorite because I am always on the look out for high-end clothing at reasonable prices, and this is exactly what she has. Mireille made aliyah from Uruguay 40 years ago, and after closing the restaurant she ran for over a decade in Rechavia, she opened up this neighborhood store about 10 years ago. She regularly travels abroad to Europe to bring back unique finds. The store is open from 3pm each day, so if you would like to visit earlier in the day just give her a call and you can arrange a morning hour to visit. (This is what I do, because afternoons are usually booked up with my kids). And last but not least, she is just lovely to talk to about fashion, ageing, and life experience. Definitely worth a trip.

“Clothes from a Good House” (בגדים מבית טוב) 

City Center, Agrepas St 7-9. Tel: 054-437 5901

I just came across this store a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to properly take a deep look, but there are some great high-end clothes and vintage pieces. You need to look for this sign on Agrepas Street, which is roughly Agrepas 7-9, and follow the arrow to find the store. It is run by Ester Wintrov for the last 10 years, and the above picture is her daughter. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are near Machne Yehuda, as it is just a few minutes walk down the road. I am also looking forward to getting to know this store better.

Haboydem

Two Locations:

Haboydem opened in 2014 and is connected to the non-profit organization “Shaf Yativ”, which provides transitional employment training for people who are facing mental challenges but have the potential to return to a competitive workplace.

I really like Haboydem because they know how to sort their donations for good quality clothing and shoes, without crowding the store. Both locations are not too large and easy to go through. I found a really nice pair of leather dress shoes recently.  The Talpiot location happens to have a great children’s section. Prices are very reasonable and you don’t need to sift through a lot of junk.

HaMetzion 

Two Locations:

HaMetzion opened in 2013, and is connected to the non-profit organization “Shekel”. I recommend visiting their City Center location which is smaller and much easier to sort through. The Talpiot location is a warehouse and unfortunately is really crowded and contains a lot of low quality clothes, shoes and games. There are steals to be found, but you need a lot of time and patience. I have found a few nice skirts only at their city center location.

Bigudit – WIZO Second Hand Clothing

HaBigudit is hit or miss. I have found some great sweaters and skirts for decent prices, but I have visited many times and have found only low quality clothing. It is worth a visit because it is small, easy to sort through and the prices are low, but keep your expectations also low. All proceeds from the store go to WIZO activities and programs in Jerusalem.

Gabriela’s Gipsy House

Gabriela is really sweet and has a very packed, but charming store in the center of town. I have found some really nice, good quality pieces here but you need time and patience to go through the racks because the place is small and it is very crowded. I found a really nice Avishag Arbel maternity shirt while I was pregnant for a quarter of what I would have paid at her store in Mamila. You always somehow feel happy here to support Gabriela’s small business. Definitely worth a visit, it is close to Jaffa Street and King George. Keep in mind she only opens at noon.

Moda

I have yet to visit Moda, though it has been highly recommended in Facebook groups. I took this photo recently in passing, but it was quite early in the morning and they don’t open until 10am. More details to come on Moda!
